Article 5 by Kristen Simmons

Synopsis: New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., have
Article 5been abandoned.

The Bill of Rights has been revoked, and replaced with the Moral Statutes.

There are no more police—instead, there are soldiers. There are no more fines for bad behavior—instead, there are arrests, trials, and maybe worse. People who get arrested usually don't come back.

Seventeen-year-old Ember Miller is old enough to remember that things weren’t always this way. Living with her rebellious single mother, it’s hard for her to forget that people weren’t always arrested for reading the wrong books or staying out after dark. It’s hard to forget that life in the United States used to be different.

Ember has perfected the art of keeping a low profile. She knows how to get the things she needs, like food stamps and hand-me-down clothes, and how to pass the random home inspections by the military. Her life is as close to peaceful as circumstances allow.

That is, until her mother is arrested for noncompliance with Article 5 of the Moral Statutes. And one of the arresting officers is none other than Chase Jennings…the only boy Ember has ever loved.

Review: Great book thanks for giving it to me! I really loved the characters and setting.

Ember, what can I say about her? Well without ruining the book, I can say that shes independent and sometimes stubborn. But she also has her sensitive side. She pulls through rough times. Ember is also very creative when it comes to finding other ways to do things. She has a very wondering mind.

Chase, Chase, Chase, Chase, CHASE! You don't really get to know many things about him in the beginning, but he opens up more and more throughout the story. I figured out things I wouldn't have thought about him.

The rest of the characters were interesting too, but most were short lived (as in not having long parts in the novel!)

The setting is kinda hard to explain. Of course, once you read it you'll understand what I mean. It's after some big war and there were a bunch of rules made. (Interesting :)

I personally don't usually like books about war, but I absolutely loved reading this one. A few friends of mine read the synopsis on the back of the book and asked if it was interesting, because they thought it sounded boring!
IT WASN'T !!!!

Love & Rockets,
-K
